Squall is hiring a Business Development Representative

A major focus of the role will be Sustainable Biz Canada

As a Business Development Representative at Squall, you will be responsible for creating new business opportunities and building relationships with prospective partners, sponsors, advertisers, contributors, organizations, and industry leaders.

You will be at the forefront of promoting Squall—telling our story, introducing people to our vision, identifying opportunities to collaborate, and turning conversations into meaningful partnerships.

A major focus of the role will be Sustainable Biz Canada, helping grow its audience, contributor network, partnerships, sponsorship opportunities, and overall presence within the sustainable business community.

You will report directly to management and work closely with the sales team, collaborating on strategy, pipeline development, and execution to ensure alignment across all business development and revenue-generating activities.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and qualify a consistent pipeline of new leads and business opportunities.
  • Proactively identify companies, executives, entrepreneurs, organizations, and industry leaders who align with Squall's mission.
  • Develop new partnerships across sustainability, business, technology, media, finance, and related sectors.
  • Promote Squall and clearly communicate our vision, value proposition, and unique position in the sustainable business ecosystem.
  • Drive business development for Sustainable Biz Canada, including identifying potential sponsors, advertisers, strategic partners, contributors, and distribution opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing partners.
  • Conduct outbound prospecting through email, LinkedIn, phone, networking, events, and other channels.
  • Research target organizations and develop thoughtful, personalized approaches to potential partners.
  • Schedule and lead introductory conversations and partnership discussions.
  • Work closely with leadership, management, the sales team, and the editorial team to develop compelling partnership opportunities.
  • Help identify new revenue opportunities, market segments, and strategic initiatives.
  • Represent Squall at conferences, industry events, networking opportunities, and community gatherings.
  • Track leads, outreach, conversations, and opportunities in the CRM.
  • Consistently follow up, move prospects through the pipeline, and convert relationships into partnerships.
  • Gather market intelligence and share insights about emerging trends, companies, and opportunities in sustainable business.

The successful candidate will make Sustainable Biz Canada a central priority.

You will help answer questions such as:

Who should be reading Sustainable Biz Canada?
Who should be featured in it?
Which companies should partner with it?
Which organizations should sponsor it?
Where can we expand its distribution?
What communities and networks should Squall be part of?
What partnerships could dramatically increase its reach and influence?
How can we turn the publication into a powerful platform for the sustainable business community?

This is a role for someone who doesn't simply wait for leads to appear—you will create the opportunities yourself.

  • Existing relationships within sustainability, business, media, technology, finance, or related sectors are a strong plus.

Salary range

$50,000 - $80,000
