Montreal-based GHGSat said one of its satellites observed 13 methane plumes at the Raspadskaya mine in Siberia on Jan. 14. The incident likely resulted in about 90 tonnes of methane being belched into the atmosphere in less than an hour.
Future planes need to reduce carbon emissions, says FAA
The Federal Aviation Administration is proposing that future planes produce lower levels of greenhouse gas emissions before they can be certified by federal regulators. The rule would include uncertified jets and propeller-driven planes, and planes built after Jan. 1, 2028.
United signs deal for 300 millions gallons of biofuel
United and United Airlines Ventures has announced to purchase 300 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) over 20 years from Dimensional Energy. United’s SAF agreements represent the largest volume of SAF of any airline over the next 20 years.
Enchanted Rock building RNG microgrid for Microsoft
Microsoft has contracted with Enchanted Rock to develop a data center microgrid — the largest microgrid in California to date that will use renewable natural gas (RNG) to offset fossil fuels. Located in San Jose, plans call for a 100-MW microgrid.
Florida utility aims to stop carbon emissions by 2045
Florida’s largest electricity provider has announced plans to eliminate its carbon emissions by 2045 by halting its fossil fuel usage and increasing its reliance on solar energy, including using it to turn water into hydrogen to power its generating plants.
