NRCan funds smart energy grids in Ottawa, Guelph

A smart-grid project utilizing solar panels and a state-of-the-art battery storage system at an Ottawa Community Housing Corporation complex is getting a $5-million boost from the federal government. Funding comes via Natural Resources Canada for Hydro Ottawa’s micro-grid energy project.

This renewal and funding build on the success of the Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan. Through the fund the government has invested $4.54B since the plan’s launch in 2005, to help close almost 17,000 contaminated sites.

Vancouver is on track to hit two-thirds of its greenest city goals, but more work needs to be done, particularly in reducing greenhouse-gas emissions. City staff reported Tuesday on progress since 2010, when council adopted the “Greenest City 2020 Action Plan.”
