Montreal-based Taiga Motors Corporation has wrapped up a busy year after having sold a combined total of 104 of its world-first electric snowmobiles and jet skis.

These figures come from the company's recently released Q4 and 2022 results.

"The fourth quarter wraps up a historic year at Taiga. Despite the challenges during the year, we successfully delivered the world's first certified production electric snowmobiles and personal watercrafts, won multiple coveted awards, launched our hybrid direct-to-consumer model and concluded the year with over 100 vehicles delivered," Sam Bruneau, CEO of Taiga said in a statement.

"Our accomplishments are not only a testament to the technology behind our products, but to the team at Taiga."

Bruneau said Taiga has been "laser focused" over the past year on shifting to mass production, from "fortifying its supply chain, to enhancing product manufacturability." He said its efforts have shown results and Taiga is starting to build "strong momentum."

The company also recently announced $40 million in funding from two unidentified investors.

Taiga (TAIG-T) reported revenue of $1.4 million in Q4 2022, compared to its initial revenue of $141,461 during Q1 2022. It's revenue for the year totaled $3.2 million.

Net loss before other expenses for the period increased to $23.8 million compared to $11.3 million in Q1 2021.

The company’s expectation is for 1,700 to 1,900 deliveries of its Orca Carbon watercraft and Nomad snowmobile in 2023.

Ballard reaches fuel cell milestone

Burnaby, B.C.-based Ballard Power Systems has announced its proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells have now powered fuel cell electric vehicles (EV) in commercial heavy and medium-duty vehicles for a total of more than 150 million kilometres.

According to a release, this is roughly equal to circling the Earth over 3,700 times. 

To reach this milestone, Ballard’s fuel cells powered over 3,800 buses and trucks in approximately 15 countries.

“We achieve this industry milestone at a time when we are seeing growing customer interest in the adoption of hydrogen fuel cells in our key mobility verticals of bus, truck, rail, and marine, as well as off-highway and stationary power applications,” Randy MacEwen, Ballard’s (BLDP-T) president and CEO said in a statement.

“Our learnings from real-world experience will continue to help us optimize our products from a total cost of ownership perspective and deliver products to meet zero-emissions targets without disrupting existing operating practices, including range, payload, and refueling time.”

Lafarge Canada installs EV chargers

Lafarge Canada Inc. announced the installation of two EV charging stations at its Innovation Hub at Winterburn, Alta.

It is part of the company’s target of installing 100 EV charging stations across B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. It also plans to convert its light-duty fleet to electricity by 2025.

"With the installation of electric vehicle chargers across our markets, Lafarge is leading the charge on electric vehicle adoption in Western Canada," Brad Kohl, Lafarge’s president and CEO of Western Canada said in a statement.

"This is just one of many steps we're taking to reduce our carbon emissions to build a more sustainable future."

There are already chargers installed at Lafarge's Kent Avenue Readymix site in Vancouver.

Lafarge is Canada’s largest provider of aggregates, cement, ready mix and precast concrete, asphalt and paving, as well as road and civil construction with over 6,900 employees and 400 sites across the country.
