Speakers

  • Leigh Pearson: As senior director of facilities, sustainability, sourcing, and procurement for Staples Canada, Leigh oversees a comprehensive portfolio that includes the maintenance, repair and service programs for over 320 Canadian locations, encompassing supply chain, retail, corporate and affiliates. Recognized for her significant contributions to sustainability, Leigh was named to Canada’s Clean50 list in both 2014 and 2016, an accolade that honours the country's leaders in sustainability, and has received accolades from the Retail Council of Canada for her work in sustainability, not once, but twice. With fiscal oversight of capital and expense budgets for all facility-related initiatives across Staples locations in Canada, as well as managing Canadian procurement for goods not for resale and corporate travel, Leigh's role is pivotal. Her journey with Staples began in 1997 as a management trainee, progressing through various store management positions until she took on the challenge of creating and centralizing the company's facility management for retail locations in 2001, a team that she has grown in size, scope and sophistication over 23 years. Leigh's leadership extends beyond Staples; she was elected to the Connex Board of Directors (formerly Professional Retail Store Maintenance Association) in 2014, serving as chair of the Board in 2016-17, becoming the second woman and the first Canadian to hold this position in 25 years. Currently, she is the vice chair of the Connex Charitable Foundation and contributes to the association's ESG committee, further cementing her status as a leader in both the retail and sustainability sectors.
