Carbon capture partnership thriving in Alberta

Energy asset operator Wolf Midstream has forged a partnership with Whitecap Resources, the First Nations Capital Investment Partnership (FNCIP) and the Heart Lake First Nation to build a saline aquifer hub in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.

The 30th carbon auction between Quebec’s Ministry of the Environment and Fight Against Climate Change (MELCC) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) generated $362 million in revenue for the province.

Canada is not on track to achieve its 45-per-cent GHG goals by 2030, according to researchers from Polytechnique’s Institut de l’énergie Trottier (IET). It suggests Canada, at most, can reduce its global emissions by 25 to 35 per cent.

Working with sustainability technology company EcoCart, Walmart Canada is offering carbon-neutral last-mile delivery for e-commerce purchases, including grocery. The plan could offset an estimated 25,000 tonnes of scope three emissions — equivalent to taking at least 5,000 cars off the road.

Alectra Utilities Corporation has received $2 million to install 340 EV chargers in communities across Ontario. The investment, given by the federal government, will see units installed in buildings, streets and facilities for servicing light-duty vehicle fleets by October 2023.

Hyundai has announced that it plans to introduce 17 new electric vehicle models by 2030. Announced at its annual Investors Day forum, the automaker also mentioned plans to boost its hardware and software offerings to compete on a global stage.

Hillcrest Energy Technologies has designed specs for a high-efficiency inverter that could be lighter, compact and more efficient electric vehicle (EV) powertrains. Hillcrest HEI expects to achieve efficiency exceeding 99 per cent with an industry-leading power density approaching 50 kW/L.
