A seven-year campaign to upgrade facilities and operations at KingSett Capital and Colonnade Bridgeport’s 66 Slater St. office tower in Ottawa has led to the building being reclassified as LEED Platinum v4.1 for Operations and Maintenance.
KingSett is the owner of the 22-storey, 257,000-square-foot commercial office building, which is home to multiple tenants including a multi-floor Spaces flexible office space location. Ottawa-based Colonnade Bridgeport is the building manager.
They achieved the Platinum certification, upgrading the building from Gold status, in May. KingSett and Colonnade Bridgeport had achieved the Gold designation for 66 Slater in 2016.
Originally constructed in 1969, the tower is located in the heart of Ottawa’s downtown Central Business District, just steps from Parliament Hill. The refurbished building boasts modern office space offering views of Parliament Hill, multiple communal areas and meeting rooms, secure underground parking, and proximity to the LRT.
“After receiving a LEED Gold Certification for 66 Slater in 2016, we set ambitious goals to further divert waste, increase water efficiency, and reduce energy consumption to surpass our previous targets,” said Greg Johnston, executive vice president of property management at CBP, in a release. “We are very proud of the dedication to continuous improvement demonstrated by our property management team in pursuing LEED Platinum.”
How CBP earned its platinum certification
CBP earned the certification by modernizing the building’s lighting with an LED system, installing low-flow plumbing fixtures, and retrofitting air handling units. As a result, energy and water consumption were reduced by 10 and 37 per cent, respectively.
Colonnade Bridgeport most recent environmental efforts resulted in a 10 per cent increase in waste diversion in just one year.
“We understand that sustainability and environmental impact are important to our clients. By taking steps to fully understand the asset strategy for each of the properties we manage, we can align important objectives across all levels of the organization to achieve these kinds of results,” Johnston said in the announcement.
66 Slater was also awarded the WiredScore Gold certification in 2018, recognizing the structure’s exceptional performance in digital connectivity.
